The museum in Gobustan is famous for its ancient petroglyphs dating back to the Paleolithic era. In 2007, the Gobustan State Historical and Artistic Reserve was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
One of the most unusual places on the planet! Here, you can feel like you are on Mars. There are over 700 mud volcanoes in the world, and 354 of them are located in Azerbaijan, making up about 40%. The mud has healing properties and is very beneficial for the skin and joints. It is also used in the chemical industry.
The world’s first industrial oil well was drilled in Baku, Azerbaijan, in 1846 at the Bibi-Heybat oil field, more than a decade before the famous Drake Well in the U.S. This marked the start of the modern oil industry. Baku quickly became a major global oil center in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, attracting investors and industrialists from around the world, including the Nobel brothers and the Rothschilds. The city's early oil boom helped shape its rich history and multicultural character.
